Becoming the Winter Queen
Recently, we dove deep into journeying with the goddess Cailleach in the gorgeous online circles facilitated by my dear friend Sarah-Alexandra @lifeisjustastorywritten. She is the Queen of Winter and invites us to embody deep rest and reflection. She came to visit me this morning by way of an ice storm and inspired poetry:
Cailleach
I hear your whisper
on the winter wind -
Welcome, Queen of Winter,
Storm-bringer
Your words of icy truth
and ancient wisdom
cover me in quiet stillness,
your cold fury
sweeping away
the rotting detritus of fallen leaves
and fallen hopes,
making safe earthen spaces
for deep rest and reflection.
Take my hand in yours,
and with your singular focus
let us walk the terrain
of this darkness
together.
You invite me to drop
the heavy stones
that I have carried on my heart
for far too long.
Let them crash to the ground
with thunderous strength
creating new mountains
in the landscape of my life.
And when the shadows grow
so long and cold,
let me find sleep and rest
by your hearth fire,
as I hear your cackling
laughter, reminding me
that there will always
be light.
How are you honoring the goddess of winter and nature’s rest this season? ❄️🩵
